A Clinical Evaluation of Postoperative Videocholedochscopic Removal of Retained Stones



Abstract
Retained bile duct stones after billary tract surgery impose a difficult problem in Oriental countries because of high prevalance of intrahepatic duct stones in Oriental countries than in Western countries. Postoperative videocholedochoscopy with
dormia
basket via T-tube tract is known as simple and reliable method with high success rate. Author studied 18 cases of retained stones after biliary tract surgery which were removed by videocholedochoscope at the Department of Surgery Chosun
University
Hospital from September 1991 to September 1992.
@ES Following results were obtained.
@EN 1) The most common site of postoperative retained stone was left intrahepatic duct(64.3%)
2) Overall success rate was 78.6%, Retained stones of common bile duct was removed completely in all cases.
3) Three cases were failed because the multiple stone were impacted in periphery of left intrahepotic duct
4) Average number of session was 1.2(range 1 to 3).
5) Associated complication rate was very low.
